Many times in the past, I have written this verse in the cards of  new Grandparents.  Now I can relate to its message.

Psalm 128

Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in His ways.

You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house;  your sons will be like olive shoots around your table.

Thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD.

May the LORD bless you from Zion all the days of your life; may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem, and may you live to see your children’s children.

Peace be upon Israel.

Each day I am learning more about seeing my child’s child (mostly through photos sent via email or phone).  His photos make me smile and I find myself viewing them often.  My heart is drawn to him and  I am longing to see and hold him again.  It is a different emotion than having my own children,  it is sweet, nostalgic, intense, and growing more so each day.

Today, Laryssa wrote a blog post that brought tears to my eyes http://jojolaryss.wordpress.com/2010/09/01/dear-lord/.  It reminded me again of my new role as a “Grammie” and that I am to pray.  To pray for the generation that my children will parent –  that the Lord will draw my grandchildren into a saving relationship with Him at an early age and that they will hold tight to His truths all of their lives.  That is what I prayed at their wedding a year ago (as we prayed over Josiah and Laryssa ) that the Christian legacy of both families would continue to the next generation.

My child’s child will live beyond me and serve a generation yet to come – but my deepest desire is that we will spend eternity together.  May I encourage each of you to pray for your children, grandchildren and those to come to be drawn into a saving relationship with our Lord and serve Him all the days of their lives – and may we lead the way, straight into the arms of our eternal Father.

“from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD’s love is with those who fear Him,
and His righteousness with their children’s children”

Amen and Amen
