I love how each of our daughter’s weddings have reflected their personalities.  So even though, this was our 3rd wedding in as many years, Nic and Audrianna’s wedding reflected their artsy,  creative and fun tastes.

Audrianna had a vision for their wedding and she did an amazing job of planning and executing a vintage theme for the day.  She asked Alison, a friend and mentor of hers (and the writer of Stuff and Nonsense Blog) to help coordinate the reception and as you will see in the photos it was perfect.

Nic & Audrianna’s deep desire to bring God glory through the ceremony was very evident – from the  music to parent’s prayers to the communion they shared.  It was a testimony to how God brought them together, worked in their lives and how they long to serve Him throughout their lifetime.

This has been their Pastor since they were both in grade school (his lovely daughter Megan was in the wedding).  It was very special to have him perform the ceremony.

Of course, there were many sweet moments including…

A very special little boy who did a GREAT job carrying his sign.

The Bridal Party – each girl’s dress was different and I love how the guys all have their shirt sleeves rolled up.

Nic & Audrianna’s Reception was a perfect way to celebrate their marriage…

Celebrating Marriage Dance

Instead of the bouquet toss, they honored marriages by hosting an anniversary dance.  All married couples danced until the number of years they were married was called (Bill & I danced to 30 years).  The last 2 couples dancing were my parents (married 58 years) and a couple from our church (married 61 years).  Audrianna then presented her toss bouquet to that couple.  Very sweet.

And of course, the evening went all too fast and it was time for the newlyweds to leave – they left in sparkles and lots of smoke (my husbands said it looks like a bomb went off).

If you want to see more of the amazing day – please click to their photographer’s (Roger Obley) blog at http://www.rodgerobley.com/2012/07/audrianna-and-nic-they-got-married.html.  He did an outstanding job of capturing the day.

The last several months has been a very recognizable and blessed time in my life and for our family - definitely providing reminders of how faithful God is.  A trip to the Mexican Riviera, time with my daughter as we got ready for her wedding, sweet time with our  family and then a most memorable, beautiful wedding day for Nic & Audrianna.  How God continues to show His love to me…

During the reception, I stood back and looked at the goodness God has given me – my husband of 30 1/2 years, my daughters and their husbands, my grandson, my parents and our many friends who helped us so very much…. I cannot even begin to express the overwhelming thankfulness and love I felt.

Over the next several days I will be sharing various photos from the many events that I mentioned here.  And then in August I am planning a total Blog Make-Over to keep up with my current life callings.  There have been so many changes in the past years that my current blog needs to be updated!!

Before the wedding….

A dear little Grandson celebrates his 2nd Birthday with a train cake at our house.

Nana has made each of  the brides a lovely book detailing their wedding along with her thoughts.  She and my Dad took Audrianna and I out to breakfast to present it to her.

The men now outnumber the women in our family – how did this happen??  My husband enjoys reminding us of how our family of girls now has more guys than girls!!

We were so glad that Josiah was here to make our family complete for this special celebration.

Nic &  Audrianna enjoying a their Rehearsal Dinner at a quaint Carriage House with a wonderful dinner provided by Nic’s Mom.  It was a special evening.

Jason & Alycia enjoying the evening – it seems like their wedding was just celebrated (September 2010)!

A happy little boy with his Mama.  Joey did so well the entire wedding weekend – he is such a joy to all of us!

This is our original core family.

This is our current family.  We are so BLESSED!!  I wonder how many more will be added to this family over the years.

~

This is the verse that I have featured on the heritage table at each of the weddings and it is perfect verse to end this post…

“For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:5

We are celebrating God’s Plan for marriages at our home this month ….

My parents celebrated 58 years of marriage this week, they started their journey together in 1954!  What a tremendous blessing they have been to my family – providing the example of what a Godly marriage looks like.  I am so thankful for their commitment to each other and our Lord.

Our youngest daughter is getting married in just 2 1/2 weeks!!  If the Lord blessed Nic and her marriage to 58 years, they will celebrate this event in the year 2070!  Wow, I wonder what life will look like in 2070 (it has been amazing to think of all the changes that my parents have seen in their marriage in the last 58 years).  Needless to say, our home has been quite busy with wedding plans, gifts arriving and lots of wedding talk.

Marriage is not always an easy journey, but making a commitment to God and His plans for marriage makes a difference.  Bill and I pray often that our daughter’s families (and our marriage) will serve the Lord all the days of their lives – paving the way for future generations just as my parents (and hopefully Bill and I) have done.  Joshua’s strong words As for Me and My House, We Will Serve the Lord, Joshua 24:15 provide the cornerstone of a strong family commitment to serve God.

To celebrate the marriage milestones our family is celebrating this month (and to allow me to enjoy each moment of all the wedding activities), I am offering a Joseph Wedding Special on the Blessings Unlimited Wall Decor, As for Me and My House Wall, item # 84646, will be 15% off ($65 instead of $76) in June.

You must contact me personally to receive this special, and the more you order, the lower the price goes (just ask). Please call at 724-601-2377 or email me at sandrajoseph@windstream.net to get this special price on the As for Me and My House Wall Hanging.

My goal is to see these words hanging in s many homes of Believers as possible – but more importantly, that those homes live out the commitment to serve the Lord each day.

Monday evening, our youngest daughter said yes to marrying her long time boyfriend Nic.  It has been pure pleasure to be part of Nic and Audrianna’s  relationship over the years (they have been dating for 4 1/2 years).  They are a fun couple, who are equally talented and most importantly they love the Lord and are looking forward to serving Him through ministry.

For the third time in the last several years, Bill and I are thanking God for bringing these two together.  As I have written before, we have been praying a Christian husband for Audrianna since she was born.  We are humbled that God would bless our family in this way.

A June 2012 wedding is in the planning and in keeping with the Joseph tradition, the talking about plans and dreaming of the special day has already began.

The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

After a wedding come the reception – the party time to celebrate.  When followers of Christ marry, there is much to celebrate.  This couple has established a home of faith that will represent God’s love and grace.  Jason & Alycia’s reception was held at a community park under a perfect picnic shelter – it was perfect just like the weather.  Alycia’s best friend from high school, Tina, did an outstanding job of decorating the large, outdoor space to make it into a wedding reception.

Tina created this sign to match their invitations – this was at the entrance

Flowers lining the entrance to the reception

A Western PA Wedding Tradition – a cookie table (cookies made by all of our friends).  The banner above the table was made by Jason’s family business, Filmet.  There were 3 banners that decorated the backdrop of the shelter.

The Cake was made my our good friend, Dawn Smith (contact me if you want information on her cake business)

Cupcakes by Vanilla Pastry Studio (they were so good)

Being toasted by their siblings – such fun.  I love Alycia’s fun yellow sandals.

Planning Alycia’s wedding celebration began as soon as the engagement ring was placed on her finger.  A short 6 months after our middle daughter, Laryssa’s wedding, we began the wedding planning process again.  As every parent knows each child is different from one another, the same is true when they begin to plan their wedding.  Alycia’s desire was to have a comfortable, more causal wedding ~ one where people would feel relaxed.  Her wedding week and day was exactly as she desired.

Nana made Alycia a special book about her wedding details complete with details from Nana’s wedding 56 years ago.  Nana, Alycia and I enjoyed a lovely breakfast together on Wednesday which is when Nana gave her this precious gift.

Jason & Alycia at the rehearsal dinner.  Jason’s parents hosted a Pittsburgh themed dinner complete with Pittsburgh food and their favorite cake – a Toasted Almond Torte.  It was a fun evening.

My oldest daughter – the beautiful bride.

Her desire for her wedding dress, was that she wanted to be approachable and hugged and I believe she achieved that with great beauty.

Of course, little Joey has to be in the wedding photos…. he was looking cute in his outfit that Aunt Alycia picked out (even if it was a little big).

Daddy and his girl…

Jason & Alycia did a great representation by braiding a Cord of 3 Strands (from Ecclesiastes 4:12)  to represent that the presence of God in their marriage.

Presenting for the first time …. Mr & Mrs Jason Dalbey

“So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

The last of our family has left and most of the wedding items  in our home has been cleaned, delivered or eaten.  It is over and to quote the line from the Father of the Bride, “It is funny how empty a house can get, isn’t it?”

The weekend was beyond words that I can use to describe.  We all felt the Lord’s amazing presence all week, but especially on the day of Jason & Alycia’s wedding.  The weather was so prefect for September – low 70′s, sunshine, blue skies with puffy, big white clouds and a little fall breeze. Thank you Lord for such a perfectly beautiful day….

Our family was surround by people who love us.  How do I describe the love and support we all felt that weekend? Once again, there are no words to describe the feeling.  My friend Merry who flew in from California to make all the delicious food with help from Kelly & Lauren,  Ann and Megan who coordinated the entire day and kept us on schedule, Joe who smoked 30 lbs of pork (it was so good), Dawn who created  the special cake, Stephanie who organized and Cindy and Micaela who managed the cookie table (a Western PA tradition) and Alycia’s good friend Tina and Ann (her Mom), who made the reception amazing.  God has provided us with friends who travel across the United States to care for us.  There are no words to express how thankful we are for all of these dear friends.  We love each of you.  Thank you Lord, for the love of our friends….

How does a Mother describe her emotions as she sees her oldest daughter get married?  I have done this before (just last year) yet the emotions were as intense as before.  All throughout the day, I would remember that little girl who graced our home with great joy and I was overwhelmed at the beautiful bride she was.  I know I expressed this last year, but even after all the times I had seen Alycia in her wedding dress (picking it out and the fittings) – seeing her as a bride once again took my breath away. Thank you Lord,  for allowing me to be the Mother of this beautiful bride.

And then there is Jason, this young man I have been praying for since I learned of my pregnancy with Alycia.  The man, Alycia has waited for.  How thankful I am for the Christian family that raised him and for his own commitment to Christ.  I can see how they compliment and complete each other.  I remember how many times I encouraged Alycia to wait for God’s choice and it brings me great joy to see Jason as the one God chose.  Thank you Lord, for working in Jason’s life to prepare him to be Alycia’s husband….

Once again, I am thankful for my husband Bill and our marriage.  As Jason and Alycia had their first dance, Bill and I shared a moment of thankfulness that God had kept us together.  As we sat around the table with our daughters, son-in-law, grandson and my parents – we felt so blessed.  One of my friends wrote this to me…  “Sitting there at the wedding while Alycia was “dancing” with her groom  I looked over at you and Bill and I think I almost cried. (ok I did
get misty) You were looking at each other with your foreheads together  and from where I was sitting the sun was shining through the two of  you and just as I looked over a tear dropped from your eye and the sun  caught as it fell between you and it looked like a diamond dropped.   It just reminded me of how you prayed and prayed for Alycia and there  was the moment. so sweet. Just beyond you was Laryssa and the baby  stroller holding your grandson, I just couldn’t think of anything I  have seen more beautiful lately than your family. You already know how
blessed you are, but I just wanted to tell you that the complete  moment was frozen in time there and it looked just like a little  glimpse of heaven.”

Thank you Lord for gracing our family with love, especially Your Love.  I am so thankful for the glimpse of heaven You provided at Jason & Alycia’s wedding in so many ways.  It was a perfect day because of YOU.

The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.

The excitement is here, our home is filling with people we love, there are piles of wedding items in our dining room and budding mums on our front porch.  There is going to be a wedding in our family in 4 days.

Once again I am reminded at how fast the seasons of life pass by – this morning I am sitting on our couch with my married daughter watching my grandson kick away on the floor.  Just last year, she was the bride – now she is a Mom and I am a Grammie.  In just a few days I will have another son-in-love (law) and my first-born will be a wife.  Life continues to change ~ I am so thankful for the amazing blessings God has given our family.

Lord, thank you for the gift of motherhood with all the joys it brings.  It has been such a gift to be Alycia’s Mom and to be part of her growing into a beautiful young woman.  I praise your name, Lord that in your time and in your way, you brought Jason and Alycia together.  I pray that their weekend will be filled with joy, love and memories.  May they always remember the commitment that they are making this weekend ~ and may they continue to love  and serve you all of their lives together.  Give them grace with each other and grace for others.  Lord, thank you for the gift of families, what a blessed gift you have given.  May You be glorified all weekend.  Amen

As we prepare for Jason and Alycia’s wedding, here is a favorite blog post to encourage you in your marriage (or soon to be wedding).  One of the comments that was left on the original  post was from the upcoming bride, my daughter Alycia – her words are special to read now… “So-I saw commercial today with the typical beautiful couple talking about how they were SO compatible with each other. This made me think about you and your blog and the numerous conversations that we have had. Thanks for pushing me to look for a man who will complete me, not just be compatible! I love you so much and am thinking of you this week!”

As you read this – please note that Bill and I just celebrated our 29th anniversary 2 weeks ago.  God is good!

My Husband ~ Compatible or Completion?

originally posted on March 11, 2008

February at our church is always The Month of the Family.  This month, we enjoyed a special speaker, Bob Barnes of Sheridan House Ministries of Florida.  He was an excellence speaker on family and parenting – I would highly recommend his parenting books. I know that many of the MOPS moms went to the parenting seminar that He gave and found it really beneficial ~ they are still talking about it.

As he was preaching about parenting as a couple ~ he made a statement that I have really been pondering.  He said, “That he didn’t need a spouse that was compatible with him, but one that completed him.”  Wow, that is so different from what our Christian advertising is telling us.  He proceeded to say that he doesn’t need someone who is like him, but someone who makes up for his weaknesses and helps him see things he would not otherwise see.

Earlier that week, Bill, my husband had been talking about how we did not have many of the same interests and we were considering what we should do about that.  Bill and I are very opposite – he is very analytical – I am very people orientated.  He is good at working with hands (he can fix anything!!) – I am very good with people, listening and discerning feelings.  When he speaks, he has his words well thought out – I think and process my thoughts as I speak.  I have lots and lots of words to say each day – Bill does not have as many.  I could go on and on listing our differences, but I am sure that you are getting the general idea.

Yet, our marriage works because of God’s grace and work in our lives.  I am not sure if the tests would claim us compatible, but I know that Bill completes me.  He helps me in math (which my brain does not do at all), he usually can bring my visionary thoughts to life and he listens when I talk (although he may still be analyzing something I said 5 minutes ago, not realizing that I have moved way beyond that).  I know that I complete him as I make him deal on a deeper level emotionally, as I minister to our daughter’s feelings and share with him what is going on and as I bring lots of people in our home which he enjoys.  His strengths complete my weakness and my strengths complete his weakness.

26 1/2 years ago when we committed in marriage to each other – I probably thought we were more compatible than we really are.  But now I know that Bill completes me and together our marriage reflects God’s grace and love.  I cannot imagine my life with anyone else, because no one else would understand my weakness as he does and still want to be with me.  I praise God that He gave me someone who completes me and not another me!!

Now, please let me share for those of you going through tough times in your marriage (and I know that there are many of you).  Bill and I have been there more times than I care to admit — but at those times it was only the commitment to God’s plan for marriage that held us together.  There have been so many times when neither of us liked the other very much and probably wished we would have married someone more compatible. But we stand as living proof that marriages can be restored and redeem by God’s work of grace in both of lives.  Right now, as our marriage endures these tough financial days there is love, grace and even laughter.  If at all possible, stick your marriage out and rest in God’s love and care for you.  Pray hard; cry out to God to be your lover until the love is restored between you and your mate.   He can help you fall in love again and it is very special to enjoy the completion you have in the mate that the Lord provided for you.

Here is a prayer that I pray for my marriage and encourage you to pray for yours…

“They will be my people, and I will be their God.  I will give them singleness of heart and action, so that they will always fear me for their own good and the good of their children after them.  I will make an everlasting covenant with them; I will never stop doing good to them and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me.  I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul.”  Jeremiah 32:38-41

Life is busy right now – real busy.

This past weekend, Labor Day weekend, we celebrated a friend’s wedding (which I helped coordinate) and Nic &  Audrianna were home from Chicago to be in the wedding.  Bill and I celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary which means Josiah and Laryssa celebrated their 1st anniversary.  The weekend also included a few hours at a county fair, church (of course) and a bonfire with family friends.  Before we could blink, it was time to say good-bye to Audrianna again (always with tears).  On Monday after she left,  my wonderful husband and I enjoyed time together by renting a pontoon boat for a few hours on Lake Arther at Moraine State Park.  It was so nice to enjoy the beauty of the lake, eat a sandwich together and just spend time together.  I snuggled in close to him as he captained our boat and no words were needed – it was just great to be together.

Life is crazy right now – we are in the final count down to Jason and Alycia’s wedding.   It is a joy to see how God has worked to bring Jason and Alycia together and how ready they are to be married.  Since Alycia no longer lives with us, planning her wedding has involved many trips to her home about an hour away.  The plans are coming together and of course there are still things to do.

Alycia is going to be a beautiful bride, I can’t wait to see her in her wedding dress with her jewelry and  hair done wearing the veil her mother-in-law (soon to be) is making her.  They are so excited to be married!!  The reception is an outside (under roof) picnic reception – we are praying for nice weather.  I cannot wait to see my friend Merry who is flying in from California to do the food (she is an amazing friend to do this for us).   And I cannot wait to see Audrianna and Nic who are coming home from Chicago (again for another wedding) and Josiah, Laryssa and Joey (and all the other guests who are arriving :) ).

Enjoy a few photos of the engaged couple….

They are so happy together..

This was in our backyard.

I love this one (she kept laughing when they were suppose to kissing)

And to top off an already busy schedule, I am planning a fund-raiser for Pine Valley Camp on September 19 through my Blessings Unlimited Business (more about this in a later post).  Today was the first day of MOPS and we had a roomful of new Mothers and 105 preschool children in the MOPPETS program – which is WONDERFUL!!  I am so excited for another year of MOPS.

So life is crazy right now and I am hanging on.  I am so thankful  that God has blessed my life with all of these wonderful gifts.  (But if you feel the desire to pray for me at any time in the next several weeks – I could use it)

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”  Colossians 2:7
