A Letter to a MOPS Mom

Mentoring is a call that I feel every Christian woman has been given. Titus 2 gives instructions to women …
“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” Titus 2:3-5
I have had the privilege to serve a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) for 10 years and have established ongoing relationships with women during this time. Recently one of them asked me to be a guest writer on her blog and after prayer and thought, this letter was written for her.
Dear April,
It has been four years since you came to me and asked me to mentor you. I remember sitting on my old comfy couch with you, hearing your life story and of your desire to learn how to be a good mother raising a Christian family. Then you asked me to mentor you. Do you remember my response? My answer to you was that you were giving me permission to speak truth into your life and that I would consider it a privilege to do so. You said that is what you wanted and so began our relationship….

Once again, I encourage you to pray for and to seek someone to mentor, to become involved in the life of someone who needs your encouragement and wisdom of what God has taught you throughout your life. It does not have to be hard (actually it is lots of fun) and as you will read in the letter mentoring takes place in many places.
No matter what age you are, I know there is someone who can benefit from your life experience – all you have to do is to be willing to take some time and listen and share your thoughts. It is an eternal investment …
“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
