Lessons learned about Mothering from Mary – Jesus’ Mother

I have been promising to publish my Bible Study outline on Jesus’ Mother, Mary for some time and today is the day.  I actually write and talk on Mary quite often (see the post from December 14,2007 titled Treasured Moments of Mary, Jesus’ Mother).  The scriptures tell us twice how she treasured her mothering moments in her heart which of course corresponds with the message the Lord has given me to recognize and remember.

One fact that I brought out as I taught about Mary was how little we know of Jesus’ growing up years.  What was it like to be Jesus’ Mother?  She probably was so proud of Jesus and yet she might have expected more of him as the first born and as the promised Savior.  All Mothers believe that their child is someone very special ~ yet, Mary actually knew that Jesus was very special.  How bittersweet it must have been to see Him grow up.

Major Points from Mary’s Life

• She was willing to do, go and be all that God asked of her. Her faith in God’s plan for her life is revealed as she responds, “May it be to me as you have said” Luke 1:38…

• God provides her with precious, treasured moments to remember; especially when she could not understand what was happening.   As she remembered how God had worked in the past – she would be reminded of God faithfulness in her life and that she would be able to trust Him in all things.

• She was privileged (and the only human) to know Jesus from conception to death. Somehow her story was shared with Luke and Matthew who were inspired to commit it to their writings of scriptures. Her legacy is one for all Mothers which is allowing God to use our children for His glory and plans.
