Last year I was interviewed by Sarah Hamaker for her newly released book Hired @ Home, The Christian Mother’s Guide to Working From Home. Ever since Alycia was born (24 years ago), working from my home has been part of my life. I have done many things, direct sales, starting several businesses, consulting in marketing, and writing & speaking. Working from my home has been beneficial to me because of my diabetes – it allows me to work at my own pace when I am not feeling too great. Working from my home has also been beneficial because of my calling as a Mom. I have had the flexibility to be with my daughters for school activities, when they have been sick and to meet their needs (forgotten lunches, orthodontist appointments and being a home room mother). Now, it allows me to be a MOPS Mentor; since I work out of my home, I can schedule my work around the MOPS meetings.
I just received my copy of Hired @ Home; The Christian Mother’s Guide to Working From Home yesterday and have read through it. Sarah did an excellence job of mixing business information along with family and faith issues. Some of the chapter titles include:
- So You Want to Work at Home
- Family Matters
- Pray, Research and Pray Some More
- Creating Your Mission
- Time for Your Debut
- The Great Juggling Act
The book is filled with many stories of women who work at home (including me). Some of the women she highlighted have jobs such as Graphic Designer, Office Manager, Church Worship Leader, Attorney, Engineer and Direct Sales Consultant (and there are many more than the ones I listed).
Sarah’s website is www.sarahhamaker.com. There you can order the book as well as read her blog about working from home. Hired @ Home is published by Debt-Proof Living (Mary Hunt’s organization). When you go to her website, be sure to tell her Hi for me.
